A native of Charleston, South Carolina, Samuel has been the receipient of scholarships and fellowships from the Oklahoma State University Friends of Music, the Houston Friends of Music, Shepherd Society, Immanuel and Helen Olshan Texas Music Festival and the International Festival-Institute at Round Top.
In recent seasons Samuel has received sponsorship to assist with the costs of participating in the Alternate ROOTS Annual Meeting and other projects.
